The workshop was chaired by Amit Kumar Ghosh, Additional Chief Secretary, Medical, Health & Family Welfare, who also released an e-newsletter on “TB-Free Uttar Pradesh.” Senior health officials, including Dr. Pinky Jowel, Mission Director of NHM, and Dr. Ratan Pal Singh Suman, Director General of Medical & Health Services, participated in the event.
Ghosh emphasized that the TB-Free India Campaign has evolved into a people’s movement, requiring active engagement from government authorities, civil society, media, and local communities.
He said, “With 930 NAAT machines operational across the state, patients no longer have to travel long distances for a reliable diagnosis. AI-enabled portable X-ray machines and advanced molecular testing have significantly improved early detection, even among asymptomatic individuals.”
Highlighting the impact of the 100-day Intensive TB Case-Finding Campaign (Dec 7, 2024–Jan 17, 2026), Ghosh noted, “Over 30.2 million individuals were screened, 8.1 million X-rays and 2.48 million NAAT tests were conducted, and 733,000 TB patients, including 169,000 asymptomatic cases, were identified. Public-private support, like IOCL providing True-Nat machines, has further strengthened early detection.”
Dr. Pinky Jowel reported a 17% reduction in TB incidence compared to 2015, along with improved treatment outcomes. The Ni-kshay Mitra initiative has supported over 1.03 million patients with nutrition kits, ensuring treatment adherence. Dr. Shailendra Bhatnagar announced the next 100-day Intensive TB-Free India Campaign, starting February 2026, which will focus on risk-based screening, community awareness, and early treatment.
Dr. Shubha Mishra highlighted the importance of media in dispelling myths and promoting awareness, while Dr. Rishi Saxena said the workshop reflects Uttar Pradesh’s strong political commitment and coordinated approach toward achieving a TB-free state.
